Wednesday's Child: 12-year-old David

BOSTON (WBZ) ― David is an active and engaging Caucasian boy with a wide variety of interests. His social worker says he is a fun person to be around and has a good sense of humor. David's social worker hopes to find a permanent adoptive family who will give David the love and support he needs to reach his potential.

David, 12, currently lives in a foster home where he gets along well with his foster family. His foster mother describes him as a happy and helpful youngster. David has a healthy appetite and likes all types of food. Along with being very patient, David can also be strong willed and has been described by his foster family as an excellent "debater." When he gets older, David has stated that he wants to be a policeman.

David is in the fifth grade where he performs at grade level. He needs a little help with reading, but he puts forth the effort and has made progress. His favorite books are the Harry Potter series. David is a true outdoors person and loves kayaking, swimming, fishing, camping and gardening in his spare time. He is now learning to snowboard. David loves animals and can be very affectionate with them to the point where he may need to be cautioned. He enjoys catching birds and butterflies, researching their identity, and then releasing them. David also likes working with his hands and takes pride in the birdhouse and feeder he built.

Legally free for adoption, David is looking forward to belonging in a family of his own. He would like to have a mom and dad, brothers and sisters. He will thrive with patience, guidance and support from an adoptive family. The ideal family will also help David to maintain a connection with his siblings.

To learn more about David, and about adoption from foster care, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678) or visit www.mareinc.org. The sooner you call, the sooner a waiting child will have "a permanent place to call HOME."
