Wednesday's Child: 12-Year-Old Demaris

BOSTON (WBZ) ― With big brown eyes and a winning smile, 12-year-old Demaris has a bubbly personality that shines through whether she is interacting with her peers or the adults in her life. Demaris is popular with her peers and enjoys spending time with friends. She currently lives in a residential home and is doing well, but she is ready to join a family of her own.

This young lady of Hispanic descent enjoys staying active and excels in organized sports, with her favorite being basketball. Demaris just started playing golf and taking sailing lessons, which she enjoys. During quieter times, she loves listening to music and is a fan of The Jonas Brothers.

Due to significant gaps in her education, Demaris is performing below grade level. She benefits from the supports she receives through her Individualized Educational Plan and is showing great improvement. Her favorite academic subject is math. When asked about her future, Demaris has said that she would like to go to college someday.

Legally free for adoption, Demaris could be placed with a single mom or a two-parent home where she is the only or youngest child. Demaris is eager to find a family who might share some of her interests, but more importantly, gives her a sense of belonging and acceptance in her new home. With the love, patience and guidance of a permanent family, Demaris will continue to blossom and reach her full potential.

To learn more about Demaris, and about adoption from foster care, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678) or visit www.mareinc.org. The sooner you call, the sooner a waiting child will have "a permanent place to call HOME."
