Wednesday's Child: 11-Year-Old Brittany
Brittany is an affectionate Caucasian girl who is sure to bring laughter into an adoptive home. With her good sense of humor, smiling demeanor, and desire to have fun, she's a joy to be around.
Currently, 11-year-old Brittany is living in a small residential home where she is doing well. She likes being active and taking walks or going hiking. Her other favorite pastimes include reading, listening to music, playing games and using the computer. She also enjoys helping to make pizza. Although Brittany likes new experiences, she does have some difficulty with change.
Brittany is cognitively limited and benefits from special education services in the fourth grade. Once rules and limits are established and understood, Brittany's academic and behavioral performance greatly improves.
Legally free for adoption, Brittany's social worker is hoping to find an adoptive home with a mom and dad, older siblings if other children were in the home, and pets. Parents who are able to set boundaries and are open to her close relationship to her respite care provider and yearly contact with her biological mother would be most suitable. Brittany will need lifelong supports, but she could reach her full potential if she has a patient and nurturing family by her side.
To learn more about Brittany, and about adoption from foster care, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678) or visit www.mareinc.org. The sooner you call, the sooner a waiting child will have "a permanent place to call HOME."
