Wednesday's Child: 13-Year-Old Jose

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Friendly, inquisitive and energetic, Jose gets along with everyone he meets. He does well in school and in his current foster home, but hopes to soon join a family of his own.

Born of Latino heritage, 13-year old Jose is able to understand some Spanish. He is active and can often be found playing basketball. When he gets older, he either wants to be a basketball player or a police officer. Jose also likes camping, traveling, swimming and playing on the trampoline and video games. He would love to go to Florida and spend some time at the amusement parks.

Jose is currently in a foster home where he is respectful towards his foster parents and gets along well with both the younger and older children in the home. He is generally in good spirits, though he continues to confront his feelings of loss about his past. In school, Jose does well academically and receives emotional support through special education services as needed. His favorite subjects are reading and social studies.

Jose's social worker describes him as a "great kid" who simply needs a family who will love and care for him unconditionally. Jose would do well in any number of families and would very much enjoy having a parent or parents who would encourage him to continue playing sports. Legally free for adoption, Jose may need future contact with siblings. He ideally would like to find a Latino or Black family with other children.

To learn more about Jose, and about adoption from foster care, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678) or visit www.mareinc.org. The sooner you call, the sooner a waiting child will have "a permanent place to call HOME."
