Wednesday's Child: 10-Year-Old Raffi

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Rafael, who prefers to be called Raffi, is a bright, energetic, and fun-loving 10-year-old Hispanic boy who shows great concern for others. He has a great sense of humor, and people often attach to him quickly due to his engaging manner.

Raffi would like to be with a family that would allow him to maintain relationships with his visiting resources and past foster parents, as his connections are important to him.

Raffi describes himself as "outgoing and active" and enjoys playing basketball, riding his bicycle, playing with other children, and any other activity that involves the outdoors. He has an adventurous spirit and enjoys trying new things. In addition to having fun outdoors, Raffi also enjoys doing puzzles, playing video and board games, listening to music, using building sets, and watching cartoons and movies.

Raffi is currently in a residential placement where he willingly helps out with household chores. Raffi benefits from one-on-one attention and encouragement from adults. He is working on issues related to his past experiences. Although he struggles to maintain strong friendships, he does like to interact with other children. Raffi is a well-spoken and intelligent public school fourth grader who is eager to learn and receives good grades with the support of an Individualized Education Plan.

Legally free for adoption, Raffi wants to be in a family that he can depend on and learn to trust. He also wants to feel accepted and that he belongs. Raffi would benefit most from a dedicated, experienced, and patient two-parent family or a single mother with no children or older children.

To learn more about Raffi, and about adoption from foster care, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678) or visit www.mareinc.org. The sooner you call, the sooner a waiting child will have "a permanent place to call HOME."
