Wednesday's Child: Shahada and Deshiya

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Shahada and Deshiya are fun, likeable African American sisters who enjoy being active. They love receiving adult attention and praise. They currently live in a foster home and are ready to belong in a family of their own.

Shahada is a smart, outgoing 7-year-old. Her social worker says she likes to interact with people, and usually has something interesting to say. She does well in the second grade and is on grade level academically. Shahada enjoys music, drawing and playing games typical of her age, including playing with dolls, tag and board games. Shahada likes to have things go her way but does listen and accept limits.

Deshiya, 9, is doing well in her third grade class. She enjoys the company of friends, playing with dolls, tag, listening to music and coloring. Deshiya is content to play outside and take in the flowers and nature around her. Deshiya likes to please and is doing well behaviorally at home and in school.

Shahada and Deshiya have experienced loss and trauma in their early years and will need an adoptive family with a strong support system. They would be a good match for a family with either no children or older children. The girls will need a great deal of support and connection to local services as they make a gradual transition into a new home. An adoptive family must be able to provide structure and proper supervision, as well as encourage the girls' strengths and advocate for their needs. It will be rewarding and challenging to parent Shahada and Deshiya, two active, growing youngsters ready to be placed in an adoptive family. They are legally free for adoption.

To learn more about Shahada and Deshiya, and about adoption from foster care, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678) or visit www.mareinc.org. The sooner you call, the sooner a waiting child will have "a permanent place to call HOME."
