Man Turns Self In After 3 Alleged Escapes

GRAY, Maine (AP) ― A Maine man who police say escaped from them three times as he was about to be arrested has turned himself in.

Authorities say David R. Sanborn Jr. called police on Wednesday and arranged to meet them near a Maine Turnpike exit in Gray. He was wanted on charges including burglary and theft in Westbrook, drug possession in Portland and theft in Freeport.

Authorities say Sanborn had eluded police during efforts to arrest him in Biddeford, at his apartment in Buxton — even though he was barefoot — and again at a a convenience store in Buxton.

Police say that during one escape, an officer tried to fire a Taser at Sanborn, but the weapon failed.
