Government Cancels Bidding On NH Job Corps Center

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) ― The fate of a federal Job Corps Center planned for Manchester, N.H., is uncertain after the Labor Department canceled the bidding process.

Construction on the center was supposed to be done by January 2011. Once completed, it was expected to provide academic help, career technical training, high school diplomas and high school equivalency certificates to help get students into jobs.

But Dick Anagnost, chairman of the New Hampshire Job Corps Task Force, told the New Hampshire Union Leader he's not sure what will happen now that the bid process has ben canceled.

That decision comes a month after North Branch Construction of Concord filed a complaint about the government's requirement that the project be built by union contractors.
